Japan Bloodhorse Breeders' Association has announced that Eskendereya passed away from heart failure at Shichinohe Stable in Aomori.
Eskendereya was a son of Giant's Causeway out of Aldebaran Light by Seattle Slew. He won the G1 Wood Memorial Stakes in the United States before retiring because of injury. After retirement, he became a sire in the US and produced stakes winners including four-time G1 winner Mitole. He was relocated to Japan in 2016. He is the sire of Daimei Corrida, runner-up in the Japan Dirt Derby.
Ryusuke Noda, Operations Manager at Shichinohe Stable commented "It was so sudden and we do not know what to say. I am thankful for all the support from breeders in the Tohoku region and I hope the last crop of Eskendereya will do well."
