Admire Zoom

The son of Maurice, a three-time G1 winner in Hong Kong, won the G1 Asahi Hai Futurity Stakes last year.

Although he finished second in the G2 New Zealand Trophy in his first race of the year, he showed promise. We expect him to perform well on the longer, straighter Tokyo racecourse.

Lance of Chaos

He won his first race in the G3 Churchill Downs Cup, his last race, for the first time in a graded stakes. He has run four races so far, all of them graded stakes, except his debut race.

He is often slow at the start, but if that habit does not show in the race, he has a good chance of winning a GI.

Arte Veloce

He won his debut race and the G3 Saudi Arabia Royal Cup for the second year running and was the favourite in the Asahi Hai Futurity Stakes, his first GI challenge.

He has yet to win a race this year, finishing second twice in two graded stakes, but his final burst is solid and he has the ability to become a top contender in GI races.

NHK Mile Cup race overview

The NHK Mile Cup is a Grade 1 horse race organized by the Japan Racing Association (JRA). It is run over a distance of 1600 meters on turf at Tokyo Racecourse and is open to 3-year- old Thoroughbred colts and fillies. Geldings are not eligible to participate. The race originated as the "NHK Cup," held from 1953 to 1995.

In 1996, it was reestablished specifically for what was then 4-year-olds (now 3-year-olds) as the spring mile championship. Since its inception, the race has allowed the participation of foreign- bred horses, and until 2000, when foreign-bred horses were not permitted in classic races, it was often referred to as the "Foreign Derby."

The inaugural 1996 NHK Mile Cup featured 18 starters, 14 of which were foreign-bred horses. No Japanese-bred horse won the race until Telegnosis in 2002; previous winners included Taiki Fortune, Seeking the Pearl, El Condor Pasa, Symboli Indy, Eagle Cafe, and Kurofune. As of March 2024, the race record is held by Danon Chantilly, who set a time of 1:31.4 in 2010.

Racecourse Feature

Tokyo 1600m turf course : The race starts at the far right of the front straight with the first corner after approximately 542 meters when using the A Course. There's a 1.5-meter incline before the third corner and a 2.1-meter incline midway through the final straight. The curve between the third and fourth corners is gentle. The course tests not only speed but also stamina and endurance.
