In his previous race, the Osaka Hai, which was his second attempt at a G1, he went off as the favorite but finished seventh.

Although he has won three G2 races so far, he has yet to secure a G1 victory. His ability is on par with the other contenders, making this a great opportunity for him to claim his first G1 title.

Jantar Mantar

He returns to racing for the first time in six months since the Hong Kong Mile last December. Although he finished 13th there, he had placed in the top three in all six of his previous races, including two G1 wins—the Asahi Hai Futurity Stakes and the NHK Mile Cup.

While this is his first race back, expectations are high for him to reclaim his mile title on the same Tokyo Racecourse as the NHK Mile Cup.

Soul Rush

He secured his first overseas G1 victory and his second G1 win overall in the Dubai Turf in his last race. In addition, he has two G2 wins and one G3 win, making him the top performer among this group.

Since last year, he has consistently finished in the top three, and many are hoping he can take revenge for his third-place finish in last year’s Yasuda Kinen.

Yasuda Kinen race overview

The G1 Yasuda Kinen is a horse race organized by the Japan Racing Association, holding an international Grade 1 status. Thoroughbreds aged three and older are eligible to compete. It takes place over a distance of 1600 meters on the turf at Tokyo Racecourse and is regarded as the premier mile race of the first half of the year in Japanese horse racing.

Established in 1951, it was initially run as a handicap race over 1600 meters at Tokyo Racecourse for horses aged three and older. In 1984, it was elevated to Grade 1 status upon the introduction of the grading system, initially restricted to older horses only. From 1996 onwards, the race date was moved to the week following the G1 Japanese Derby, and the eligibility criteria were expanded to include horses aged three and older.

The race is named after Izaemon Yasuda, the first chairman of the Japan Racing Association. Since 2017, the winner, runner-up, and third-place finisher of the Yasuda Kinen have been granted priority entry rights to the G1 Prix Jacques Le Marois in France. Additionally, from 2021 onwards, priority entry rights to the Prix du Moulin de Longchamp have also been awarded.
