The G1 Takarazuka Kinen is a horse race organized by the Japan Racing Association, holding an international Grade 1 status. Thoroughbreds aged three and older are eligible to compete. Established in 1960, initially held over a distance of 1800 meters on turf, it has been contested over 2200 meters since 1966. Following the introduction of the grading system in 1984, it was elevated to Grade 1 status.
Similar to the G1 Arima Kinen, the field for the Takarazuka Kinen is determined by fan voting which is known as "Grand Prix", with the top 10 horses receiving priority entry rights. The winner of the race is granted priority entry rights to the G1 Breeders' Cup Turf and the G1 Cox Plate in the same year. In 2019, Lys Gracieux won the Takarazuka Kinen and subsequently triumphed in the Cox Plate after venturing to Australia. The current race record is held by Titleholder, the winner in 2022, setting a course record over the 2200- meter distance at Hanshin Racecourse. In 2024, due to renovation work at Hanshin Racecourse, the venue for the race was changed from the traditional Hanshin location to Kyoto Racecourse.
Hanshin 2200m turf course : The course used for the Takarazuka Kinen. It takes place over just more than one full circuit of the inner course. The turns from the third to fourth corners are relatively gentle for an inner course. The final straight measures 356.5 meters (using the A-course configuration) and features a steep uphill climb of 1.8 meters between the 200-meter and 80-meter marks.
