Forever Young is not the sole challenger from Japan. T O Password, winner of the Open Class Fukuryu Stakes, is aiming for a remarkable feat in this year's G1 Kentucky Derby.

T O Password is by Copano Rickey out of T O Rachel, with King Kamehameha as the dam's sire. Favorite Trick, the sire of the grandmother, was a renowned horse who was named the American Champion Two-Year-Old Colt in 1997, but he finished 8th in the 1998 Kentucky Derby.

T O Password has had 2 starts and 2 wins. In January's Newcomers, he led from start to finish, securing a dominant victory in his debut. Opting for a step up in class, he competed in the Open Class Fukuryu Stakes next and brilliantly led wire-to-wire to victory. This placed him at the top of the 'Japan Road to the Kentucky Derby' leaderboard, and a journey to the United States was confirmed. Kazushi Kimura, who has been named Canada's leading jockey for the past three years, was secured as the jockey. With this young talented rider, who also competed in the Kentucky Derby with a Japanese horse last year, T O Password is set to challenge the big race.

A monumental record transcending the boundaries of Japanese horse racing is at stake. Since 1985, the fewest career starts before a Kentucky Derby is three. If T O Password, with only two races under his belt, secures a victory, it would set a new record. Furthermore, he will challenge the 'Curse of Apollo,' a jinx that states no horse who didn't race as a two-year-old can win the Kentucky Derby. Although Justify broke this curse in 2018 after 136 years, and Mage won last year, it remains a formidable obstacle.
