On May 22, the sole filly in the G1 Japanese Derby, Regaleira, participated in track work with two stable mates on the woodchip track at Miho Training Center.

Starting in second position, she maintained a relaxed stride throughout. Even when she moved between Ampadu and Atrium Chapel in the stretch, she remained composed, comfortably clocking 6F in 86.3 seconds, with the final 3F in 38.7 seconds and the last furlong in 11.8 seconds.

Trainer Tetsuya Kimura remarked, "She started energetically and showed her characteristic stride quality throughout. She finished strongly alongside the other horses, and I believe she's progressing well."

Christophe Lemaire, who recently won the G1 Japanese Oaks last week with Cervinia from the same stable, will ride Regaleira for the first time since their victory in the G1 Hopeful Stakes. After riding her in a training session the previous week, he noted, "She's grown physically and matured mentally. I think her racing ability has also improved." Lemaire, who aims for his second Japanese Derby win following his 2017 victory with Rey de Oro, commented, "She's a calm runner, which is crucial for the 2400 meters. If she can stay relaxed over the distance, she'll be able to maintain her pace up the hill. This is a big opportunity."

"She has a very independent spirit, is dignified, and knows her own mind," added trainer Kimura. Her resilience and ability to compete against colts were demonstrated in the Hopeful Stakes. This exceptional filly, unconstrained by gender, aims to become only the fourth filly in history to win the Japanese Derby, following Hisatomo in 1937, Kurifuji in 1943, and Vodka in 2007, with her confident and capable jockey back in the saddle.
