Satono Reve, 'King of Summer', on course to claim the G1 Sprinters Stakes

An emerging new star has suddenly appeared in the world of JRA sprinting. Satono Reve, the reigning King of Summer, is making a bold bid for the top spot in the ranks of sprinting.

His two graded race victories this summer have been spectacular. In the G3 Hakodate Sprint Stakes, he responded superbly from a prominent position. In the straight, he split a narrow gap in a fraction of a second and stretched out to win comprehensively. In the G3 Keeneland Cup, he was in perfect form from a good position and showed his pure ability over the rest of the field with a side-stepping sumo performance.

Jockey Damian Lane, who took the reins in the last race, was unwavering in his praise for the horse's groundwork. "He's a very strong horse. I feel he's a sure-fire winner in the G1". Lane will be applying for a short-term license to come to Japan just for this one week. He could ride for another month this year on a short-term licence, but it seems that he is so committed to this race that he is willing to ride for just one week.

In the meantime, Satono Reve will remain in the stables. Trainer Hori said, "He is in good health and is eating well, but it is still hot, hotter than in Hokkaido, so he is not fresh. He is a short-distance horse with a lot of muscle mass, so he is inevitably stiff, and he had to take a long rest because of an imbalance between the left and right sides of his thighs, so we will take care of that as we make adjustments". Nevertheless, he will be ready for the race, which is why he is a top trainer.
