Lugal with Atsuya Nishimura on board won the G1 Sprinters Stakes at Nakayama Racecourse on Sunday. Toshin Macau finished second, a neck behind the winner, and Namura Clair came home in third, a neck behind Toshin Macau. Sent-off favourite, Satono Reve finished a disappointing seventh. The winning time was 1:07.0.

Lugal is a son of Duramente out of Atab, by New Approach. Despite being the favourite in the spring G1 Takamatsunomiya Kinen, the horse disappointed to finish 10th, and a post-race examination revealed a fracture. This race marked the horse's comeback since that injury, and he secured a brilliant victory, claiming his first G1 title. For jockey Atsuya Nishimura, this victory also marked his first-ever JRA G1 win.
