In the G3 Challenge Cup, third favourite Ravel powered home from mid-pack to claim his second graded stakes victory, his first since the Artemis Stakes as a 2-year-old, marking a long-awaited return to the winner's circle after two years and one month.
The race unfolded at a solid pace, with the first 5 furlongs clocked at 58.4 seconds. Ravel settled comfortably in the middle of the pack, maintaining a smooth rhythm throughout the race. As the decisive moment approached, he travelled strongly into contention and unleashed a powerful stretch run to hit the wire in front. Deep Monster, the sixth favourite, came flying late to grab second, while 13th favourite Air Fanditha finished third.
Jockey Yuga Kawada, who guided Ravel to this long-awaited victory following a runner-up finish in the Queen Elizabeth II Cup just two weeks earlier, shared his thoughts, "He ran a smooth race today. From the start, I focused on maintaining his rhythm, keeping him moving well throughout the trip. Right now, it's less about getting him to settle and more about ensuring he can sustain his movement. That was the key point, rather than worrying about him being too keen."
Reflecting on the performance, Kawada added, "Last time, he showed great form and ran a strong race in top-class company, even though he didn't win. I felt during the warm-up today that he had carried that good condition forward into this race. The most important thing is that he's finally won again after such a long time. I hope everyone involved with him, as well as his fans, can share in this moment of joy." Ravel's impressive comeback highlights his potential to compete at a high level moving forward.
