On the 11th, some of Japan's racing greats gathered to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the opening of Daisen Hills. Situated in Hakuto-cho, Tottori Prefecture, Daisen Hills is the breeding base of the famed North Hills, and around 350 people, including jockeys such as Take, Lemaire, and Kawada, trainers, and related parties all attended.
Representative Koji Maeda greeted the attendees with his sons, horse owners Koki and Kodai. "At first I thought, 'If we wait three years, we'll win the Oka Sho, and if we wait five years, we'll win the Japanese Derby,' but it took us 14 years to win the Oka Sho," he recalled. "I want my two sons to work together and run the ranch for 80 or 100 years until their grandchildren take over," he said in statesman-like fashion, before it was revealed that he will donate 10 million yen each to Hokkaido Hidaka-cho, Shinkawa-cho, and Hakuto-cho in Tottori Prefecture, all of which are related to producing and breeding thoroughbreds.
Take, who achieved North Hills' first Derby victory as Team North Hills aboard Kizuna, also expressed his gratitude, adding: "It was a day which reminded me of my love for horses and passion for racing. I learned a lot."
