A Shin Fencer with Kenji Kawamata on board won the G3 Silk Road Stakes at Kyoto Racecourse on Sunday. Grand Est finished second, one-and-a-half lengths behind the winner, and Win Carnelian came home in third, a half length behind Grand Est. The winning time was 1:08.2.
The winner, A Shin Fencer (5yo, mare), is by Fine Needle out of A Shin Panagia, whose sire is Eishin Sandy. Following her surprise victory as the 11th favourite in the Carbuncle Stakes, she secured back-to-back wins and claimed her first graded stakes title. This victory also marked the first JRA-graded stakes win for jockey Kenji Kawamata.
