Mama Cocha (C)netkeiba

Six-year-old mare Mama Cocha aims to capture her second G1 victory in the Takamatsunomiya Kinen. Here are the key contenders for the race.

Mama Cocha (6yo mare) enters the race following a victory in the G3 Ocean Stakes. While she was expected to win against a G3-level field, her decisive finishing mmaneuver, coming from behind to challenge and outlast the front-runners, showcasing both her ability and tenacity. Despite being a six-year-old mare, she remains as strong as ever. Looking back at her first G1 triumph in the 2022 Sprinters Stakes, the runner-up and third-place finisher in that race were Mad Cool and Namura Clair, the same horses that finished one-two in last year's Takamatsunomiya Kinen. Now back in top form, another G1 victory is well within reach. Yuga Kawada will take the reins.

Satono Reve (6yo colt) has been a model of consistency throughout his career. The only time he finished outside the top five was in his first-ever G1 attempt, last year's Sprinters Stakes, but even then, he was only 0.4 seconds behind the winner. In his most recent start, he ran a close second to Hong Kong speedster Ka Ying Rising, further proving his competitiveness at this level. He has a knack for running well against any opposition, again making him a strong contender. Joao Moreira will be in the saddle.

Other notable entries include last year's Takamatsunomiya Kinen winner Mad Cool (6yo colt), last year's Sprinters Stakes champion Lugal (5yo colt), the accomplished Namura Clair (6yo mare), the powerful closer Kangchenjunga (5yo colt), the in-form Big Caesar (5yo colt), and Toshin Macau (6yo colt), who previously defeated Mama Cocha. These top sprinters will battle it out in the spring winds of Chukyo Racecourse. Post time is set for 3:40 PM JST.
