Third favourite and 3-year-old colt Luxor Cafe captured his first graded stakes victory in the G3 Musashino Stakes, triumphing over the same stage where his full brother Cafe Pharoah reigned supreme in back-to-back editions of the G1 February Stakes (2021 & 2022).
Breaking sharply from the outside barrier, he secured a prominent tracking position on the outside. Turning for home, he was full of running, and when jockey Damian Lane asked for an effort in mid-stretch, Luxor Cafe responded instantly, opening up by 3 and 1/2 lengths on the field. "He felt very good today. He travelled strongly throughout and showed a really sharp turn of foot. It was a very good win," Lane commented afterwards.
Finishing second was heavy favourite Costa Nova, who recovered from a disastrous start, while Bidaaya, the fourth favourite, threaded through traffic to take third.
