Niigata Racecourse of August 6th, race favourite, Deadly, rode by jockey Yuga Kawada broke his maiden. The three-year-olds' win marked the first victory for Roaring Lion as a sire in the JRA.
Roaring Lion is by Kitten's Joy out of Vionnet (Street Sense). During his racing career, he was trained by the renowned British-based trainer, J. Gosden.
The European Horse of the Year for 2018 began his racing career in August 2017 in a conditions race at Newmarket Racecourse. He remained unbeaten in his first three starts including the G2 Royal Lodge Stakes. Roaring Lion missed out narrowly when beaten by Saxon Warrior in the G1 Racing Post Trophy, his final start as a juvenile.
Though unsuccessful in the 2000 Guineas, he achieved his long-awaited G1 title in the Eclipse Stakes in July 2018. His run of top-class form continued when dominating the European middle-distance racing scene, winning the G1 Juddmonte International Stakes, Irish Champion Stakes, and Queen Elizabeth II Stakes. His final race was in the BC Classic in the same year. Roaring Lion retired with eight wins from 13 career starts.
