First official visit to a racecourse by the current Japanese Emperor

Christophe Lemaire saluting to the Emperor and Empress

The current Emperor of Japan, Naruhito visited Tokyo racecourse to watch the G1 Tenno Sho (Autumn). It was his first visit to the track since being crowned in 2019.

Emperor Naruhito and Empress Masako watched the race from the Royal Box and welcomed the winner of the Tenno Sho (Autumn), Equinox and C. Lemaire with a smile and wave. Lemaire also paid his respect by saluting the Emperor from the saddle of Equinox and fans applauded the gesture. Vice president of JRA Hideaki Yamaguchi reported Empress Masako showed her interest in the racing saying "Mr Lemaire won last week's G1 as well right?".

President of JRA, Masayoshi Yoshida reflected "The Emperor and Empress thanked us for a great day out and great racing. We are honoured to host Emperor Naruhito and Empress Masako."
