On January 31st, five-year-old Kaolinite escaped the confines of the stabling area at Himeji Racecourse in Hyogo.

The Toshifumi Oyama-trained mare ran loose and exited the west gate of the racecourse onto a public road. Disaster was averted when the three-time NAR winner was fortunately caught by a horse truck driver who was sitting stationary at nearby traffic lights. Nobody was injured in the incident.

The Hyogo prefecture Horse Racing Association made a statement in relation to the incident, "We apologize that people were worried and road users were put at risk. We have put in place protocols to prevent a similar incident happening in the future."
