This week's Hopeful Stakes will give jockey Yutaka Take a chance to complete his trophy cabinet with all JRA flat G1 silverware. His partner, Century Bond, is currently on a two-race win streak. While not the most impressive performances in modest company, but he is a strong and consistent competitor, and Nakayama Racecourse is sure to suit.

A natural question we must begin to ask is, after Yutaka Take, who is the next jockey to complete a clean sweep of the JRA G1 flat championships? I suspect that few people can give an immediate answer when asked. So, here are the jockeys who are close to achieving it.

Those are jockeys C.Lemaire and M.Demuro, each with only four races outstanding. C.Lemaire has not won Takamatsunomiya Kinen, Osaka Hai, Asahi Hai Futulity Stakes, and Hopeful Stakes. M.Demuro has not won the Tenno Sho (Spring), Victoria Mile, Yasuda Kinen, and Shuka Sho. The biggest challenge for C.Lemaire is the Takamatsunomiya Kinen, which he has only ridden twice in: on Albiano (3rd) in 2004 and on Logi Cry (8th) in 2007. His regular absence is largely since the Dubai International Race is held the same week as the Takamatsunomiya Kinen, and it is unlikely that Lemaire will ride in the race again in the future.

M.Demuro, on the other hand, has not won a G1 race at JRA for more than two years since his victory with Circle of Life in the Hanshin Juvenile Fillies in 2021. First of all, we would like to see the Italian-born rider return to being a force in the most prestigious races.
