Yuichi Fukunaga has had a flagship career within the JRA as a top jockey for several decades, but now he will start his new career as a trainer. If everything goes right, he will make his debut on the 9th of March.

Ahead of his debut, he commented: "It has been a long but short time coming for this debut day. I will open a new chapter but it is a normal day for horses in my yard. We will do our best as usual."

If Leonore gets selected to run in Race 11 at Hanshin Racecourse on the 9th, Yutaka Take will take the reins, forming a legendary pairing to kick things off. On Take, Fukunaga added, "He is the most suitable jockey for Leonore and Yutaka was the one who brought me into my career as a jockey."
He also entered Marubutsu Pride in the Race 10 at Hanshin on the 10th. Fukunaga has a special connection with the owner, saying, "He was the owner of the first horse I rode and won in a race. Now, it is time for me to pay him back."

There is one goal for Fukunaga's stable: "Horses first. I do not have any particular race that I want to win. I will choose the best path for each horse for the best outcome possible for every horse."

Lastly, he thanked his supporters saying, "I received so much support from the fans, more than any other jockeys. Everyone is excited for the debut but I just need to do what I need to do. I also cannot forget to stay updated and try new things, just like I used to do when I was a jockey."
