The G1 Yasuda Kinen is a horse race organized by the Japan Racing Association, holding an international Grade 1 status. Thoroughbreds aged three and older are eligible to compete. It takes place over a distance of 1600 meters on the turf at Tokyo Racecourse and is regarded as the premier mile race of the first half of the year in Japanese horse racing.
Established in 1951, it was initially run as a handicap race over 1600 meters at Tokyo Racecourse for horses aged three and older. In 1984, it was elevated to Grade 1 status upon the introduction of the grading system, initially restricted to older horses only. From 1996 onwards, the race date was moved to the week following the G1 Japanese Derby, and the eligibility criteria were expanded to include horses aged three and older.
The race is named after Izaemon Yasuda, the first chairman of the Japan Racing Association. Since 2017, the winner, runner-up, and third-place finisher of the Yasuda Kinen have been granted priority entry rights to the G1 Prix Jacques Le Marois in France. Additionally, from 2021 onwards, priority entry rights to the Prix du Moulin de Longchamp have also been awarded.
Tokyo 1600m turf course : The home straight measures 525.9 meters, with the starting point located towards the right-hand side of the backstretch. The distance to the first three corners is approximately 542 meters (A Course). There is a slight incline before the third corner with a 1.5-meter rise and another incline with a 2.1-meter rise towards the end of the straight. The course features gentle curves around the third and fourth corners, demanding both speed and stamina from the horses.
