The G1 Sprinters Stakes is a horse race organized by the Japan Racing Association (JRA), open to thoroughbreds aged 3 and older. It is an international G1 race run over 1200 meters on turf at Nakayama Racecourse. Before the distance of the G1 Takamatsunomiya Kinen was changed, it was the only sprint G1 race in the JRA calendar.
The race was elevated to G1 status in 1990. Originally held in December, the week before the G1 Arima Kinen, it was moved to early autumn in 2000 when Japan's sprint racing structure was reorganized. The Sprinters Stakes became an international race in 1994, allowing foreign horses to compete. Since then, renowned sprinters like Hong Kong's Silent Witness, Australia's Takeover Target, and Singapore's Rocket Man have participated.
The race is run on the outer course of Nakayama. The starting point is at the top of a hill near the entrance to the back straight, with a descent of around 4.5 meters continuing from the start through most of the backstretch. The back straight is about 275 meters long, leading into a very gentle curve at the 3rd corner. The home straight is short at about 310 meters, similar to those found on regional tracks but features a steep climb of 2.4 meters just before the finish.
