Jantar Mantar is a colt who has emerged as a dominant miler in his generation. He opened his career with consecutive wins, claiming the G2 Daily Hai Nisai Stakes and then the G1 Asahi Hai Futurity Stakes in 2023.
In his three-year-old season, he finished second in the G3 Kyodo News Hai and third in the G1 Satsuki Shō (Japanese 2000 Guineas), before stepping back to a mile to win the G1 NHK Mile Cup in 2024. He then ascended to even higher ranks by capturing the G1 Yasuda Kinen in 2025, solidifying his status among Japan’s leading milers.
Ascoli Piceno is a filly who has rapidly risen to the top of the miler division. She remained unbeaten as a two-year-old, winning her debut in June 2023 and following up with victories in the G3 Niigata Nisai Stakes and the G1 Hanshin Juvenile Fillies, the latter in record time.
In 2024, she finished second in both the G1 Oka Sho (Japanese 1000 Guineas) and the G1 NHK Mile Cup, before returning to form in autumn by defeating older horses in the G3 Keisei Hai Autumn Handicap. She continued to progress in 2025, capturing the G2 1351 Turf Sprint and then claiming her second G1 title in the Victoria Mile, solidifying her position as one of Japan’s leading milers.
Soul Rush has developed into one of the most accomplished milers in Japan. After winning on debut in December 2020, he steadily progressed through the ranks and captured his first graded title in the G2 Milers Cup in 2022. He added another major victory in the G3 Keisei Hai Autumn Handicap and went on to repeat his Milers Cup triumph in 2024.
Later that same year, he secured his first G1 title in the Mile Championship, and in 2025, he extended his success overseas by winning the G1 Dubai Turf, firmly establishing himself as a world-class miler.
The Mile Championship is an international G1 horse race organized by the Japan Racing Association (JRA). It is run over 1600 meters on the turf at Kyoto Racecourse and is open to horses aged 3 and older.
Established in 1984 with the introduction of the JRA grading system, the race was created to strengthen the sprint and mile racing. It is positioned as the autumn counterpart to the Yasuda Kinen, which is considered the spring's mile championship. Over the years, the race has produced a number of top-tier winners, including Nihon Pillow Winner, Nippo Teio, Oguri Cap, Daitaku Helios, Taiki Shuttle, Durandal, Daiwa Major, Indy Champ, Mikki Isle, and Gran Alegria, all renowned speedsters who have left their mark on the race's history.
The race starts from a pocket extended from the second corner on the backstretch, with a 712-meter run to the third corner (on the A Course). There is a 4.3-meter uphill climb leading to the third corner, followed by a steep downhill run into the fourth corner. Though the corners are more gradual compared to the inner course, the slope is sharp. The final straight is flat and measures 404 meters (A Course).
