Second-favourite Stellenbosch with Joao Moreira won the G1 Oka Sho (Japanese 1000 Guineas) comfortably holding off a late challenge made by pre-race favourite Ascoli Piceno by 3/4 lengths. Light Back came home in third a neck behind Ascoli Piceno. The winning time was 1:32.2.

Stellenbosch is a daughter of Epiphaneia out of Bloukrans, by Rulership. This is the first G1 title for Stellenbosch after finishing second behind Ascoli Piceno in the G1 Hanshin Juvenile Fillies.
