Five Japanese racehorses listed in the latest Longines World Best Racehorse Ranking

The International Federation of Horseracing Authorities (IFHA) has released the latest Longines World Best Racehorse Rankings (LWBRR). This edition covers major global races conducted from January 1st to April 7th, 2024. The list features 25 horses rated 118 or higher, five Japanese-trained horses have made the publication.

Topping the rankings with a rating of 128 is Laurel River, who dominated the G1 Dubai World Cup, outrunning last year's champion, Ushba Tesoro, by an impressive eight and a half lengths to clinch a breathtaking front-running victory.

Rebel's Romance holds the second spot with a rating of 123. Previously tied for third, Rebel's Romance ascended in the rankings after a commanding victory over rivals such as Shahryar and Liberty Island in the G1 Dubai Sheema Classic. Tied for third place with a rating of 121 are National Treasure and Senor Buscador from the USA, both of whom were previously tied for the top spot.

Other Japanese-trained horses include Shahryar, second in the G1 Dubai Sheema Classic, and Ushba Tesoro, previously tied for third, both tied for fifth with a rating of 120. Prognosis, previously tied for seventh, is now tied for eleventh with a rating of 119. Danon Beluga, third in the G1 Dubai Turf, and Justin Palace, fourth in the G1 Dubai Sheema Classic, are joint twentieth with a rating of 118.

Although Bellagio Opera won the G1 Osaka Hai and was initially rated 118, the LWBRR committee decided after discussion to exclude it from this edition of the rankings.
