Sugar Kun, who has shown high ability with 2 wins in 3 starts since his debut, is aiming for a spot in the G1 Japanese Derby. On Tuesday morning, he galloped smoothly up the uphill track at Ritto Training Center, showing perfect preparation for his final workout ahead of the Japanese Derby trial, the G2 Aoba Sho. In the stable, as he calmly enjoyed his feed, rider Miyamoto reported, "He's doing well as usual. He's even more energetic than usual on Tuesdays."

A week ago, Sugar Kun worked on the training track at Ritto Training Center with jockey Yutaka Take aboard. When urged, he extended his stride strongly and finished ahead of his workmate Borzakovskiy by half a length. He marked an impressive time of 6 furlongs in 1:20.2, with splits of 35.5 seconds for the first 600 meters and 11.1 seconds for the final furlong. Yutaka Take, who has partnered with Sugar Kun for all three starts since his debut, commented, "He moves well, and his condition seems good. His tendency to hang left has also been corrected once each." Given that he is the younger brother of a legendary horse Kitasan Black, he added, "His conformation is different, but his cardiovascular function is equally strong. I don't think the distance will be a problem at all. With this pedigree, he's a horse that must run in the Derby." With a horse of such potential and a skilled jockey, we may witness an astonishing performance.
