In Race 5 at Kyoto Racecourse on the 23rd, a Newcomers race that saw the favourite, Eri King, ridden by jockey Yuga Kawada, secure victory with a powerful finish from mid-pack. Eri King surged ahead in the stretch, beating second favourite, Sarakosth, who closed strongly from the back of the field, by one and a half lengths. The winning time was 1:52.1. Chic, the fifth favourite, finished third, one and 3/4 lengths behind Sarakosth.

Eri King is by Kizuna out of the Young Star, whose sire is High Chaparral. The dam, Young Star, is a G1 Queensland Oaks winner in Australia. Eri King was purchased for JPY231,000,000 (including tax) at the 2023 Select Sale as a yearling.
