Four-year-old colt A Shin Spotter, a son of A Shin Hikari, aims for his first Graded stakes victory on the turf G3 CBC Sho (1200m) at Kokura Racecourse on July 2nd.
In his first four starts, A Shin Spotter struggled in races over 1400m and beyond. However, in his fifth race, which was his first attempt at 1200m, he secured his maiden victory. From there, he steadily progressed, winning the Final Stakes three starts ago to earn his open-class status. In his previous race, the Anba Stakes, he showcased a brilliant late surge to claim his first open-class victory.
Thus far, A Shin Hikari's progeny have competed in a total of 14 JRA Graded stakes races, with the best result being a second-place finish by A Shin Hiten in the 2021 G2 Rose Stakes. They have yet to capture a title. As a successor stallion to the legendary Deep Impact, there are several stallions with Storm Cat as their maternal grandsire, including Kizuna, Real Steel, and Danon Kingly. With such competition, even A Shin Hikari, who won two overseas G1 races, cannot afford to rest on his laurels. It is crucial for him to produce a Graded stakes winner and make his presence felt.
