Don Frankie and Kenichi Ikezoe in the Procyon Stakes
Don Frankie with Kenichi Ikezoe on board won his first graded stakes title in the G3 Procyon Stakes. Favourite of the race Remake came home in second, a neck behind the winner.
Jockey Ikezoe reflected, "We raced in our style with a good jump out of the gate. The pace of the race was not ideal for Don Frankie but he has the stamina so I was hoping for him to stay calm until the home stretch. I saw Remake coming from the outside but we stayed calm and got the job done."
With this victory in the Procyon Stakes, Don Frankie became the heaviest horse to win a JRA graded stakes race, with a weight of 594kg. Ikezoe commented, "He will grow more and will get stronger. He has been growing as we hoped and I am looking forward to his future."
