[Select Sale 2023] Unprecedented JRHA Yearling session ends with Record-High Sales' Gross of 13.365 billion yen

The two-day "Select Sale 2023" kicked off on the 10th at the Northern Horse Park in Tomakomai, Hokkaido.

Today, featured the yearling session, 222 horses listed for sale with 216 horses successfully changed hands. The total sales for the day reached in excess of 13 billion yen, marking a 3.8% increase from last year's record-high sales of 12 billion yen. The clearance rate was 97.3% with an average price of 61,875,000 yen per yearling.

There were 28 yearlings sold for over 100 million yen. The highest-priced horses on the first day were Include Betty 2022, a colt by Kitasan Black and Palace Ruler 2022, a colt by Silver State both sold with a price of 310 million yen. Include Betty 2022 was purchased by Danox Co., Ltd., known for the racehorse prefix "Danon." The dam, Include Betty achieved five wins in North America and won the G1 Mother Goose Stakes. Palace Ruler 2022 was acquired by TN Racing and is a half-brother to Justin Palace, the winner of this year's G1 Tenno Sho (Spring).

The highest-priced filly was '22 ex Donna blini by Duramente, purchased by TN Racing for 210 million yen. She is a half-sister to Gentildonna who won seven G1 races.

This year, there was particular attention on the progeny of the late great Duramente, sire of horses such as Titleholder, Stars on Earth, and Liberty Island. The total sales for Duramente's progeny reached the highest gross of any sire, recording 1.6 billion yen for 14 horses offered.

Among the owners, Kaneko Makoto Holdings Co., Ltd. secured a total of 1.2 billion yen in purchases. The highest-priced horse was '22 ex Green Bananas, a colt by Wootton Bassett which was secured for 270 million yen.

Other notable acquisitions were, Cosmopolitan Queen '22, a colt by Kingman sold for 300 million yen, I'm Already Sexy '22, a colt by Kitasan Black, whose dam achieved 10 wins in North America was sold for 290 million yen. '22 ex Anthulas, a colt by Epiphaneia, a brother to five-time JRA winner is Anticipate was knocked-down for 250 million yen.
