Seltsam earned a first graded stakes winner for this two-year-old term with victory in the G3 Hakodate Nisai Stakes. Sire of Seltsam, Henny Hughes produces horses with resilience against heavy ground and that added a huge advantage to Seltsam in today's race in heavy conditions.

The winning time was 1:11.7. Nanao finished second and Sky Canvas came home in the third.

Jockey Hamanaka reflected, "He raced well on dirt so I was not worried about the condition of the ground today. That actually worked in our favour and gave us the advantage." For future plans, he commented, "We will have more discussions with connections and the trainer on whether he will continue to run on turf or dirt."
