The six weekends of racing at Hakodate Racecourse for 2023 have come to an end. Jockey Daisuke Sasaki, in his second year as jockey, emerged as the Racecourse's leading jockey with 18 wins, finishing in front of Takeshi Yokoyama with 14 wins.
Sasaki expressed his joy, "I'm delighted. I've been given the opportunity to ride so many promising horses from week one." Sasaki became the youngest jockey in history to win the Hakodate leading jockey title, surpassing Eiji Nakadate's record set in 1985 at the age of 20.
Sasaki rode nine wins in his debut year as a jockey in the JRA. In 2023, he has already achieved 37 wins. "I'm disappointed I didn't manage to win any races in the final week. However, it has been great experience to be able to participate in the races with top jockeys."
The Hakodate leading trainer's title was won by trainer Tatsuhiko Ishiguri, who achieved four wins.
