Selection Sale 2023 makes the history books grossing 6,211,370,000 Yen

The "Selection Sale 2023," the largest yearling sale in the Hidaka region, Hokkaido, organized by the Hidaka Horse Breeders Association, was held for two days starting from the 25th. On the second day, 146 yearlings were listed and 132 were sold, achieving a clearance rate of 90.41%. Meanwhile, total sales were recorded at 2,951,410,000 Yen and the average price was 22,359,167 Yen.
The second day featured 17 lots sold for 40 million Yen or more. The top-priced horse was "Strike Root 2022", by Epiphaneia, who has a half-sister named Epos, winner of the G2 Fillies Revue. He was acquired by Mr Minoru Yoshioka, known by his prefix "Minoru," for 66 million Yen.
The second highest-priced lot was "Apollo Fiorina 2022", by Kitasan Black, which was sold for 61.6 million Yen to the North Hills Co., Ltd. The third highest-priced horse was "Spring Thunder 2022" by Saturnalia, which has a half-brother, Scarface, who finished second in the G3 Nakayama Kimpai - secured at 59.4 million Yen by Mr Masayoshi Sasaki.
Over the course of the two-day sale, a total of 295 lots were listed, with 271 lots sold for a clearance rate of 91.9%. Total receipts reached 6,211,370,000 Yen, which represents a 116% increase compared to last year's sale, setting a new record for both total sales and clearance rate. Overall, the average transaction was approximately \22.92 million (colts: approximately 25.25 million Yen, fillies: approximately 16.61 million Yen), surpassing last year's average of around 20.30 million Yen.
