Prognosis, with Yuga Kawada in the plate, dominated the G2 Sapporo Kinen on Sunday. The pair was positioned in mid-field and made the race-winning move around the third corner. Overcoming Top Knife in the home stretch, Prognosis finished an emphatic four length winner in a winning time of 2:01.5. So Valiant finished third, and betting favourite Jack d'Or finished sixth.
Prognosis is a son of Deep Impact out of Velda, by Observatory. The lightly raced five-year-old has been a consistent performer in graded company on his last three starts. He won the G2 Kinko Sho in March and made a successful trip to Hong Kong when finishing second in the Queen Elizabeth II Cup. Prognosis will be an interesting proposition in all the championship races this autumn.
