From August 21st to 25th, the "2023 Summer Sale" is taking place at the HBA Sales Complex in Shin-Hidaka Town, Hokkaido.

The event boasts the largest catalogue of thoroughbred yearlings to go under the hammer in Japan. Over 1000 horses will be offered over the five-day sale. While the auction prices may not reach the heights of the Select Sale and Selection Sale held in July, the sale still showcases horses for all budgets.

Among the past graduates of this sale, notable horses include multiple G1 winner Maurice, Calstone Light O, who clinched a record-breaking victory in the Ibis Summer Dash and won the Sprinters Stakes. 2008 sales graduate, Love Michan, is a two-time NAR Horse of the Year awardee. These examples highlight the impressive achievements of horses that emerged from this sale in numerous racing categories.

This year, there has been an unprecedented number of standout horses emerge in the 3-year-old dirt division. Leading the way is NAR juggernaut Mick Fire, leading the way. He has already achieved the remarkable feat of remaining undefeated in the South Kanto region Triple Crown, a feat that hadn't been accomplished in 22 years. Mick Fire was purchased for Five million yen, below the overall sale average, at the 2021 Summer Sale and has already amassed earnings of 152.5 million yen.
