Hagino Alegrias returned to the winner's circle with Mirai Iwata in the G3 Sirius Stakes at Hanshin Racecourse on Saturday. Racing smartly from a mid-field position, he showed a sharp turn of foot in the homestretch, ultimately holding off the challenge made by Icon Tailor who finished second behind the winner. Vanyar came home in third. It was a first JRA graded stakes title for trainer Hirofumi Shii and the second title for 6-year-old Hagino Alegrias.

After the race, Iwata reflected, "It was a positive thing for us to start from the outside. He could focus on the start and I did not have to worry about the interference by other runners. He did really well in his first handicap race and he will get much better from this. He has been through a lot from injuries but I'm so happy for the whole team to finally win a graded stakes. I'm looking forward to more things with him."
