Namur was a brilliant winner of her first Grade 1 title in the Mile Championship at Kyoto Racecourse on Sunday. Ridden by Kota Fujioka, the 4-year-old mare showed off her explosiveness in the homestretch, coming from the back of the pack to strike the front in the dying strides, finishing ahead of Soul Rush in second and Justin Cafe in third. The winning time was 1:32.5.

After the race, winning jockey Fujioka commented, "I was surprised to hear that I will be riding in the race after Ryan (Moore) got injured but I have been watching her race and I had a discussion with Moreira and trainer Takano. I was able to ride calmly thanks to the way she travelled smoothly despite the slow jump out of the barrier. She responded well to me so I just needed the gaps to open in front. She was amazing." Reflecting on a first G1 title in 14 years, Fujioka added, "It has been a long time since I last won a G1. I am grateful to the connections for giving me this chance with Namur."
