On January 29th, the 2023 JRA Awards Ceremony and JRA Commendation Presentation Ceremony was held in Tokyo, attended by the connections of the winners from the various categories. The racing club responsible for Liberty Island, winner of the Best 3-Year-Old Mare title, expressed their desire to win the G1 Dubai Sheema Classic which is her next start and a first overseas challenge for the Champion filly.

Although the Dubai Turf was an option, Shunsuke Yoshida, representative of Sunday Racing, Liberty Island's owner group, said, "We set our sights on Dubai and discussed with Trainer Nakauchida whether she would prefer the Turf or the Sheema Classic. The deciding factor was that she had a strong race in the Oaks, and he chose to fight against strong opponents in the Sheema Classic."

This year, a strong lineup is expected, including Auguste Rodin, a Deep Impact colt and winner of last year's British and Irish Derby, Irish Champion Stakes, and BC Turf. Yoshida added, "The opponent she lost to in the Japan Cup was Equinox, and I am not pessimistic. I think she has experience from that race, and I expect her to do even better this year."
