G2 The Hochi Hai Yayoi Sho Deep Impact Kinen, the Japanese 2000 Guineas Trial, was won on Sunday by Tastiera ridden by Kohei Matsuyama. Matsuyama guided his mount into a great position at the front of the race and timed his run perfectly in the homestretch to win by a length. Odds-on favourite Top Knife battled up the rail but couldn't catch the winner and a neck behind him was One Direct in third.
Tastiera is a son of Satono Crown out of Partitura, by Manhattan Cafe, and his victory on Sunday marked a first group stakes success for his exciting young sire Satono Crown. By finishing in the top three, Tastiera, Top Knife, and One Direct each won themselves a spot in the Japanese 2000 Guineas, the Satsuki Sho.
