Second favourite Cervinia bounced back from a 13th-place finish in the G1 Oka Sho to claim victory in the Japanese Oaks, a big comeback victory for jockey Christophe Lemaire. The winner of the G1 Oka Sho and top favourite, Stellenbosch, finished second, while third favourite Light Back secured third place.

As the frontrunners set a high pace with the first 1000 meters clocked at 57 seconds, Cervinia waited patiently in the middle to rear of the pack. In the stretch, she quickly overtook Lance of Queen and Queen's Walk, and despite a strong challenge from Stellenbosch on the inside, she held her position to cross the finish line first.

For Christophe Lemaire, who had suffered a severe fall and fractures in the G1 Dubai Turf in March, this victory marked his first G1 win of the year, signalling a full comeback. His first words were a smiling "I'm back." He reflected, "I had confidence in winning with Cervinia. Her previous race didn't go well, but I believed in her potential and rode with confidence. Since she had won over 1600 meters before, I wanted to hold back until the 3rd or 4th corner this time, and she showed a fantastic turn of foot in the straight. She truly showcased her strengths."

Approaching his 45th birthday on the 20th, Lemaire reassured fans of his vitality, saying, "I'm feeling great."
