Schwertlilie, the first foal out of the renowned mare Lys Gracieux, will clash with his dam's full brother, Evolving, in the 3-Year-Old Maiden (Turf 1800m) on Sunday at Kyoto Race 6.
Schwertlilie is by Maurice out of Lys Gracieux, whose sire is Heart's Cry. Lys Gracieux had an illustrious career, winning the G1 Queen Elizabeth Hai in 2018 and the G1 Takarazuka Kinen, G1 Cox Plate, and G1 Arima Kinen in 2019. Given this pedigree, there were high expectations for Schwertlilie. In contrast, Evolving is by Heart's Cry out of Liliside, with American Post as the damsire, making him the full brother to Lys Gracieux.
