Schwertlilie, the first foal out of the renowned mare Lys Gracieux, will clash with his dam's full brother, Evolving, in the 3-Year-Old Maiden (Turf 1800m) on Sunday at Kyoto Race 6.

Schwertlilie is by Maurice out of Lys Gracieux, whose sire is Heart's Cry. Lys Gracieux had an illustrious career, winning the G1 Queen Elizabeth Hai in 2018 and the G1 Takarazuka Kinen, G1 Cox Plate, and G1 Arima Kinen in 2019. Given this pedigree, there were high expectations for Schwertlilie. However, in his three starts to date, he has finished 3rd, 4th, and 8th, often positioned well but unable to deliver a strong finish.

In contrast, Evolving is by Heart's Cry out of Liliside, with American Post as the damsire, making him the full brother to Lys Gracieux. Evolving, seven years younger than his celebrated sister, has shown promise with two second-place finishes in as many starts. Notably, he was just a head behind the winner in his most recent race, suggesting his first victory is within reach.

The race will be a compelling battle between these two relatives: will the younger full brother Evolving secure his maiden win, or will Schwertlilie demonstrate his potential and take the victory? All eyes will be on this intriguing family rivalry.
