The emerging talent from the Kansai region, the Yuichi Fukunaga stable, is sending a promising horse to Tokyo Racecourse for the Newcomers on the 16th. Danon Brandnew, a colt by Mikki Isle, fetched a high price of ?140 million (excluding VAT) at the 2022 Select Sale as a foal. He is a well-bred horse, being a half-brother to the 2022 dual Classic-winning filly Stars On Earth.

In a key workout on the 5th, he clocked an impressive 6F in 80.4 seconds, with final splits of 36.1 seconds and 11.7 seconds on the Ritto Training Center woodchip track. He finished on even terms with an older horse. Rider Nomoto commented, "He's progressing well. His movement is good," indicating readiness for his debut. "He's light on his feet and has a positive attitude. The horse is solid. He doesn't have a sharp burst of speed, but he can sustain a long run," he added, highlighting the colt's potential.

Danon Brandnew also displayed notable speed during barrier practice last Friday, which was quick. The assistant trainer noted, "He tends to relax when in front, but he's fine when he has company." Starting at 1400 meters, he may differ in category from his illustrious sister, but his quality is undeniable. With this promising eastern debut, they aim for victory at the first attempt.
