The well-bred Frankel progeny Shonan Hakuraku (5-year-old colt) is aiming for his first graded stakes victory in the G3 CBC Sho.

Shonan Hakuraku boasts an impressive pedigree, being by Frankel out of Shonan Adela, with Deep Impact as the damsire. His sire, Frankel, is a legendary racehorse who went undefeated in 14 starts, including 10 G1 titles and is often hailed as one of the greatest racehorses in history. As a sire, Frankel has continued to produce top-class performers, and his stud fee has reached 350,000 GBP (approximately 65 million JPY), the highest in the world alongside Dubawi. On the dam's side, Shonan Adela was the winner of the 2014 G1 Hanshin Juvenile Fillies. Shonan Hakuraku was bred by his owner Tetsuhide Kunimoto, known for the "Shonan" prefix.

To date, Shonan Hakuraku has had 24 starts with 4 wins. After winning the 3Win Class Daigo Stakes last November, he entered the Open Class. Although he has not hit the board since moving up, he is consistently finished within eight lengths of the winner in all six of his races over 1200 meters on turf, staying within 0.9 seconds of the winning time. In his last race, the G3 Kitakyushu Kinen, he posted the fastest final 3 furlongs and finished just 0.4 seconds behind the winner, showing that he has the potential to compete in graded stakes with the right race setup.

As a son of Frankel, Shonan Hakuraku could become the first JRA-graded stakes winner since Grenadier Guards in the 2021 G2 Hanshin Cup, marking Frankel's 10th graded stakes win in Japan. He is definitely a horse to watch.
