Regaleira, the fifth betting choice, edged out Shahryar by a nose in a dramatic stretch duel to become only the second 3-year-old filly in history, and the first in 64 years, to win the G1 Arima Kinen, following Star Roch in 1960. Jockey Keita Tosaki claimed his second Arima Kinen title, having first won in 2014 aboard Gentildonna. The second favourite, Danon Decile, finished third, with the trifecta yielding a massive payout of 196,520 JPY.
The race turned unpredictable after the withdrawal of heavy favourite Do Deuce two days prior, on December 20. With the dual G1 winner of the Tenno Sho (Autumn) and Japan Cup absent, the grand prix took on a wide-open feel, ultimately producing a historic triumph for the 3-year-old filly.
Jockey Tosaki expressed his gratitude to the fans, saying, "Thank you so much for your incredible support, especially in this cold weather. I'm truly happy." Reflecting on the race, he added, "I knew the start would be key, and although we were a bit slow out of the gate, we managed to secure a smooth position and rhythm. In the tight finish, I focused on giving it everything to not lose in spirit." He concluded by expressing optimism for Regaleira's future, "Winning the Arima Kinen as a 3-year-old filly makes her future even more exciting. I hope you'll continue to support her."
