On 25th December, it was announced that Shahryar, the winner of the 2021 Japanese Derby, would be retiring from active racing. The Sunday Thoroughbred Club made the announcement on its website. He will join the stallion ranks at the Shadai Stallion Station in Hokkaido.

He ran as the fourth favorite in the G1 Japanese Derby, beating the favorite, Efforia. The following year, he won the G1 Dubai Sheema Classic, his first overseas G1 victory, and ran well in the G1 Breeders' Classic Turf, finishing third for the second year running. His runner-up finish in the G1 Arima Kinen last week was his final outing.

The Shadai Thoroughbred Club also announced on its website that Stars On Earth, winner of the G1 Oka Sho and Japanese Oaks, will retire from active racing and enter the breeding program. She finished 14th in her last race, the G1 Arima Kinen.

Deep Bond, a four-time graded race winner, will also retire from active racing and become a guide horse at Kyoto Racecourse.
