Regaleira, winner of last year's G1 Hopeful Stakes, has completed her final track work ahead of her autumn debut in the G2 Rose Stakes. At the Miho Training Center, she worked in a three-horse string over the woodchip track, clocking 6F in 86.6 seconds, with splits of 38.0 and 11.3 seconds, showcasing her smooth preparation. In the spring, she competed in the G1 Satsuki Sho and G1 Japanese Derby, finishing 6th and 5th respectively against colts. Now, in her first race exclusively against fillies after six starts, she looks to demonstrate the class of a G1 winner.
Regaleira's impressive final acceleration caught the eye as she straightened up alongside her workmates. Positioned in the middle of the three-horse group, she travelled between Freccia on the outside and Hip Hop Soul on the inside, maintaining a one-length gap between them. Though starting off leisurely, her stride lengthened effortlessly while staying completely balanced. She closed the gap smoothly to finish on equal terms with her workmates.
Her rider, Ota, commented, "I feel she's in good shape. Of course, she's not at her peak yet, but there's an expectation to deliver results even at this stage," indicating the pressure of sending out a G1 winner for her autumn debut.
Regaleira made her mark with an extraordinary come-from-behind victory in the G1 Hopeful Stakes. Expectations soared for her 3-year-old spring campaign as she took on the Classics against colts in the Satsuki Sho and Japanese Derby, finishing 6th and 5th. Although the results were not completely satisfying, in both races and all five of her starts, she recorded the fastest final 3F sectional times.
It is widely recognized that Regaleira is more than just a 2-year-old G1 winner. "Positioning will be key moving forward, and the start is critical. I hope her race execution improves," said her rider.
This autumn debut will also highlight her development over the summer. "She's grown physically, and mentally she's become calmer, more mature. I hope she shows a promising performance," Ota added. Stepping into her first all-fillies race, Regaleira faces a crucial test at Chukyo Racecourse, not just for the result, but for the way she races.
