World-renowned jockey Christian Demuro, a two-time Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe winner, has returned to Japan after two years. On October 24, the 32-year-old visited Ritto Training Center to complete procedures for his short-term license, beginning his stay until December 25. He is set to partner with Danon Beluga for the first time in the upcoming G1 Tenno Sho (Autumn), aiming for his fifth JRA-G1 victory, his last being in the 2022 Queen Elizabeth II Cup. Fans are eager to see if he will deliver a captivating performance right from the start.
Back on Japanese soil, Demuro is ready to showcase his refined skills. His last stint in Japan in 2022 saw him win 31 races, including four G1 titles, with the Queen Elizabeth II Cup aboard Geraldina among them, bringing his JRA win total to 195. However, his points for penalties prevented his return in 2023. During his time away, he secured his second Arc title with Ace Impact and, despite a fall and brief injury setback in June, currently ranks fourth in France. On this return, Demuro expressed his joy in Japanese, stating, "I'm very happy."
Ahead of his much-anticipated rides, he added, "Apart from the time off, it's been a special season, and I feel in good condition." With a confident smile, he shared, "I'm looking forward to plenty of wins and taking home a G1 title, too."
For the Tenno Sho (Autumn), he teams up with Danon Beluga, a horse he knows well from international meets. "He's a strong finisher who comes from mid-pack. I'm confident in a good result." Demuro's weekend rides are packed with promising contenders, including Aguri in the Swan Stakes and Amakihi, a debutant and offspring of Apapane. All eyes are on Demuro to see if he will make a sensational comeback on Japanese tracks.
