Brede Weg looks returns from an 11-months break in the G1 Mile Championship

Brede Weg returns to Kyoto, a track she will remember as the stage of her G1 debut and first G1 victory in last year's Queen Elizabeth II Cup. Fresh from an 11-month break, she returned with an impressive come-from-behind win in the Fuchu Himba Stakes, now setting her sights on the G1 Mile Championship.

This year has been a challenging one for Brede Weg. She had to forgo her planned Dubai trip due to inflammation in her right stifle and later missed the Niigata Kinen due to muscle soreness. Yet, she overcame this lengthy break to win her comeback race decisively.

After a short spell, Brede Weg returned to trainer Keisuke Miyata's barn on October 31. "After her last race, there was some strain in her back and hips, but the farm provided excellent care. She's been sharper than ever since day one, and she's in even better form now," Miyata remarked.

Skipping a chance to defend her Queen Elizabeth II Cup title, Brede Weg will instead debut in the Mile Championship. "Kyoto's shorter straight means positioning will be key," Miyata explained, acknowledging that this mile race will be a test for her. "It's a new challenge, and I'm excited to see how she measures up against the top milers, including the overseas talent." The comeback queen looks to shake up the mile division with her first attempt at this distance.
