Beginning a little keenly, Sound Vivace began to travel in her rhythm when restrained by jockey Suguru Hamanaka. She showed a dominant sprint in the final 200m, and drew away from her rivals in the last 100m, catching up to long-time leader Win Charlotte. The winning time was 1:33.9.
Hamanaka reflected: "I wanted to position her up front and she was travelling well. When I asked her to go forward she responded perfectly to me." Her victory on Saturday earned Sound Vivace an entry spot for the G1 Victoria Mile. Hamanaka said confidently that, "She proved that she is a potential G1 winner. I know she can do it at that level."
The race favourite Rouge Stiria finished a disappointing sixth.
