This week features racing at Nakayama, Kyoto, and Chukyo Racecourses, with three graded stakes scheduled.
This weekend's highlight is the G1 Hanshin Juvenile Fillies at Kyoto Racecourse on Sunday, December 8th. Brown Ratchet, unbeaten in two starts, including the Artemis Stakes, heads the field. She will face tough competition in May Day Ready, runner-up in the Breeders' Cup Juvenile Fillies Turf in the U.S., Run for Vow, winner of the Daily Hai Nisai Stakes, and Caught Alliciant, a promising runner-up in the Niigata Nisai Stakes from the first crop of Saturnalia.
Also on Sunday, Nakayama Racecourse hosts the G3 Capella Stakes, where notable contenders include Chikappa, a three-year-old who finished second in the JBC Sprint. Sunrise Amour, who enters on a streak of two open-class wins, and Kurojishi Joe, a consistent performer at graded stakes level.
On Saturday, December 7th, the G3 Chunichi Shimbun Hai will be run at Chukyo Racecourse. The field features Cosmo Kuranda, runner-up in the Satsuki Sho, Desierto, an impressive winner of the Andromeda Stakes, and Lord del Rey, who aims for his first graded stakes victory.
Internationally, the Hong Kong International Races will be held at Sha Tin Racecourse on Sunday, December 8th. Among the entries are nine Japanese horses, including Liberty Island, last year's Japanese Triple Tiara winner, an intended runner in the Hong Kong Cup.
