Artemis Stakes winner Brown Ratchet, targeting an undefeated coronation as the 2-year-old filly champion, completed her final track work on December 4th on the woodchip track at Miho Training Center. Displaying a smooth stride and sharp acceleration, she looks in perfect condition despite concerns over maintaining her body weight ahead of transportation to the Kansai region. Elsewhere, Dantsu Elan showed lively movement on the woodchip track at Ritto Training Center, and Caught Alliciant, returning after a layoff, demonstrated sharp footwork at Miho.
Brown Ratchet's elegant form shone on the Miho woodchip track. The unbeaten filly, poised to claim the juvenile filly title, locked onto the target of front-runner Orchid Romance by the third corner. Unlike her stablemate, who required urging in the stretch, Brown Ratchet remained under a motionless Shimada (though the race rider will be Christophe Lemaire) before smoothly switching leads in the final furlong. Maintaining focus to the wire, she clocked an impressive 6F in 83.6 seconds, 3F in 38.0 seconds, with a final furlong in 11.6 seconds.
Trainer Takahisa Tezuka nodded in approval, saying, "Her movement is flawless," while Shimada was equally impressed, "She had great rhythm and balance throughout. Even in rough footing, her stride remains steady. She's exceptionally easy to ride, a true standout with immense potential."
However, there are minor concerns. Her most recent body weight was measured at 434kg, slightly below the 440kg recorded after her last start. "She returned from her spell at the same weight as before her previous race, so she might drop a bit by race day," Tezuka explained. With transportation to Kansai looming on Saturday, the trainer reassured, "Her cardiovascular condition is fully prepared, so there's nothing to worry about."
A well-bred daughter of Kizuna and a half-sister to dirt champion Forever Young, Brown Ratchet has lived up to her pre-debut reputation as an "S-class" talent. Undefeated through her first two starts, including her commanding Artemis Stakes victory, she is versatile in running style. "Last time, she conserved energy on the inside, but she can handle circling wide too. The Juvenile Fillies will likely have a faster pace, but she can adapt and unleash her turn of foot," Tezuka said confidently.
Once she safely completes her journey and hands over the reins to Christophe Lemaire, the milestone of a 10th G1 victory for the stable will come into view.
