Three-year-old filly Stellenbosch, who boldly ventures overseas, showcased her excellent form under Joao Moreira at Sha Tin Racecourse. Stretching out with her powerful, fluid stride, she clocked an impressive 4F in 50.6 seconds, finishing the last 2F in 23.5 seconds on the turf course. Watching her final track work, trainer Sakae Kunieda expressed satisfaction, saying, "That was an incredible action. There's absolutely nothing to criticize."
A consistent performer, Stellenbosch has finished in the money in all seven of her starts. In this year's Filly Triple Crown races, she claimed victory in the Oka Sho, finished second in the Japanese Oaks, and placed third in the Shuka Sho, proving herself as one of the top talents of her generation. Her sharp closing speed, her greatest weapon, is expected to be equally effective against older rivals in this G1 test.
The Hong Kong Vase has been a particularly successful race for Japanese horses, with five consecutive top-two finishes for Japanese runners since 2018. Reuniting with Joao Moreira, who guided her to triumph in the Oka Sho, adds another layer of confidence. "The jockey was very pleased with her movement, mentality, and recovery during the work. If she performs to her ability, she'll be a formidable contender," Kunieda stated confidently.
Carrying limitless potential, the talented three-year-old filly is ready to etch her name into history on the world stage at the G1 Hong Kong Vase.
